Removing and refitting an eBike wheel is straightforward if you follow the right steps. Before you start, shift the chain into the smallest cog — this makes the process easier no matter which system you have.
X35 System
Removing the wheel
Disconnect the power cable from the rear wheel. Gently pull it away from the frame, making sure it doesn’t fall back inside.
Using an 8mm Allen key or 15mm spanner, remove the bolt and washer from each side. Keep them safe.
The wheel should now drop out of the frame.
Refitting the wheel
Move the rear derailleur back slightly and slide the wheel into the dropouts, guiding the rotor into the rear calliper.
Refit the washers and bolts, tightening securely.
Reconnect the power cable — line up the arrows and push until you feel a click.
Secure the cable back to the frame clips so it doesn’t rub on the wheel.
Turn the pedals a few times to check the chain is in the right gear before riding.
X20 System
Removing the wheel
Using a 6mm Allen key, turn the thru axle anti-clockwise until it’s free from the threads in the hanger.
Pull the thru axle out and remove the wheel.
Refitting the wheel
Position the wheel so the dropout connector aligns correctly.
Slide the thru axle back in — it should go in smoothly and hand-tighten easily.
Torque the thru axle to 10Nm.
Turn the pedals a few times to check the chain is correctly seated before you ride.
