Shopping for a new bike is an exciting time, right? But, when faced with such a wealth of bikes to choose from, how do you ensure that you get the right size? Choosing the correct size road bike couldn't be easier. As long as you are armed with the right information, of course. Check out our guide to find out what works best for you.

Women-specific bikes

We like to think of all riders as being individuals, and our priority is in making sure that the bike is right for your body shape, size, and personal preference. Consequently, all of our bikes are unisex in design and are fully customisable to achieve a fit that's perfect for you. The crucial element to getting this right is to ensure that the sizing of key components is correct. Most notable of which are the handlebars, handlebar stem and cranks. Specifying a ladies specific saddle is always highly recommended too, of course.

Back to basics

Firstly we should address what exactly is meant when we refer to 'geometry'. In short, it is simply this; geometry encompasses the shape, length, and angles of the tubes that come together to form the frameset.

For example, the image to the right shows each section of the frame and links it to the dimension in the chart below. For instance, an XS frame has a top tube (B) measurement of 52 cms whereas the S has one that is 53.5 cm.

The geometry of a bike affects the position you will find yourself sitting in, how the bike handles and its aerodynamic performance. A racing cyclist, for instance, will prefer a more stretched out position for improved aerodynamics. A mountain biker, on the other hand, needs a more comfortable, upright riding position. One that offers a head-up riding position that enables them to pick their lines and enhances the stability and control of the bike.

The first step is to determine your height and inside leg measurement. Do you know these? If not, we have you covered. Here are some simple tips to help you measure these. The methods described below are easier with the aid of a helpful assistant. However, you can also obtain the measurements yourself in the absence of a willing volunteer.

Height

• Simply stand upright in bare feet, with your back against a wall/door frame.
• Place a pen or pencil atop your head and parallel to the floor.
• Make a small mark on the surface and measure.

Inside Leg

• In bare feet; stand upright with your back against a wall.
• Place a book/ruler between your legs and level with your crotch.
• Have someone measure the distance from the top of the book/ruler to the floor.

OK, now that you have your height and inside leg measurements, it's time to apply them to your bike of choice. The good news is that we have done the hard part for you. Each bike on our website has a recommended height range for each individual frame size (see image). This height range isn't just based upon default factory measurements. We have collated data gained through numerous real-world measurements taken in-store and via test rides.

If you find that you fall between 2 sizes, the general rule of thumb is to opt for the smaller size. Why you may ask? Well, it's because it's generally considered easier to make a bike that's a little small fit than one that's too large. There are certain alterations that you can make to a smaller bike to correct the sizing.

These include: lengthening the stem length, crank length and raising the saddle height. It is much more difficult to adjust a bike that is too large to fit the rider. After all, a seat post can only drop down so far. Whereas fitting too short a stem can result in overly responsive (twitchy) steering.

Alternatively, if you live or work in close proximity to one of our showrooms, we would thoroughly recommend visiting one. Using these jigs we can simulate the specific dimensions of frame size and adjust the fit to get it just right for you.

As we alluded to earlier, there are several key components that are customisable and which ensure that the bike you receive is right for you. Whether you're male or female, the rules to obtaining the correct measurements apply to both equally. In direct contrast to an 'off-the-peg' bike where the components choices are preset, we offer an almost unlimited choice of customisation options.

Handlebar width

Have someone measure the distance between the AC joints of your shoulders (the 2 knobbly bits to the front of your shoulder, where the collarbone and shoulder blade meet).

With the odd exception, most handlebar manufacturers will quote handlebar widths as a centre to centre measurement. This dimension is normally obtained by measuring the bars from the centres of each drop. However some manufacturers such as Zipp will measure them from centre to centre across the tops.

If they are a centre to centre model, (like our own LEVEL brand) simply add 2cms to your shoulder measurement to obtain the correct width. If they are measured from outside to outside of the drops, add 4cms.

Handlebar stem

Unlike handlebars, there is no magic formula to help you ascertain the correct length of the handlebar stem. The only way to accurately determine this is to book a professional bike fitting or visit one of our showrooms. Given the general trend of female riders being shorter in the torso and long in the leg, we find that a shorter stem length works better.

The average male rider will normally opt for a stem length of between 90 and 120mm. Whereas a stem length in the region of 70-90mm is better suited to the female rider. Broadly speaking, the smaller the size of the frame, the shorter the stem should become.

When you select a frame size on our website the handlebar and stem lengths will default to our recommended size for that particular size. However, should you then change the size, these will decrease or increase correspondingly. You then have the option to amend these manually by clicking on 'customise bike'.

As individuals, our anatomies are all very different. What may be comfortable for one person may cause discomfort for another. This makes it very difficult to pinpoint exactly what saddle will be comfortable for you. What is essential though is to ensure that it offers the right support for your sit bones (pelvic bones). Thankfully, there is a very simple method for measuring how far apart your pelvic bones are. All you need is,

• A flat bench or chair to sit on
• A flat object that sits lower than the seat, that you can rest your feet on. A stool, box, or bench for instance.
• Piece of corrugated cardboard.
• Tape measure.
• Chalk (optional)

1. Take the cardboard and lay it on the seat.
2. Lower yourself onto the cardboard so it is aligned under your buttocks.
3. Raise your feet and place them on the lower footrest.
4. Try to simulate the position you would normally adopt when riding a bike. If you like a relaxed position sit more upright. If you prefer a more aggressive race position lean forward.
5. Hold this position for approximately 30 seconds.
6. Stand up and retrieve the piece of cardboard.
7. You should be able to make out 2 clear indentations imprinted upon the cardboard. These are produced by the sit bones and can be used to calculate your ideal saddle width. If you can't make out the indentations clearly, take a piece of chalk and rub it across the cardboard to bring out the indentations.
8. Next, take the tape measure and measure the distance between the indents. Use the centre of each as your start/finish points.

You can now apply this information to choose an appropriate saddle for your preferred style of riding. All saddles have a defined width so just find the one that best suits you.

Hybrid/Gravel/MTB

Add 20mm to the measurement, this will add more stability and comfort when assuming a more upright riding posture

Endurance Road/Gravel

Add 10mm to the measurement, this saddle offers a good compromise between comfort and performance.

Our flagship showroom in Clitheroe, Lancashire offers you the opportunity to test-ride a selection of bikes from across our all-encompassing range, including our fastest aero road bike ever - the Ultra SL R, versatile CGR all-road bikes, off-road optimised Gravel bikes and, of course, our superlight, hill-conquering e-bikes (subject to availability). We have a dedicated fleet of conventional and electric bikes in a range of sizes available to try out for a pre-booked 30-minute test ride slot (subject to availability). These slots are only available during daylight hours on any day when the Clitheroe showroom is open. Booking is required to secure your ride slot (30 mins max).

One of our technical advisors will talk you through our bike range in the showroom and match your requirements to the most suitable test model.

Before you begin your test ride, we will ask you to complete a test ride form on one of our iPads, and a credit or debit card will be used to take a non-refundable deposit of 60p in your name. We will ask you to leave your payment card and an accompanying form of ID with us for the duration of your test ride. This will remain in a secure card lock box which only you will have the access key to; this will also have a tag with the showroom contact number in case of emergency.

Once all the contact points of the bike are sanitised (bars, levers, buttons, and saddles), the bike is then yours to test independently for 30 minutes. Helmets and Hi-Viz vests can be provided upon request, but we advise customers to bring their own where possible. We also advise that customers take their mobile phone with them during the duration of the test ride in case of emergency.

They allow you to spread the cost over 12 to 18 months through a salary sacrifice arrangement with your employer, providing substantial savings. Once you join a scheme, your employer will issue you a voucher or letter of collection, which you can use to select and collect the bike and accessories that best suit your needs.

• HOW DO I PURCHASE USING A CYCLE TO WORK SCHEME?

• Speak to your HR department to find out which Cycle to Work scheme your work place is registered with.

• GET YOUR VOUCHER

  Step 1: Select your bike and add to your basket.

  Step 2: In the basket click on 'get a cycle to work quote'. Please note that the quote will be valid for 28 days.

  Step 3: Print off or save the quote and pass on to your employer's Cycle To Work administrators.

  Step 4: Await your vouchers arrival.

  Step 1

  When you receive your voucher, create an account or log in in to your existing account before proceeding to the checkout. Add your bike to the basket, proceed to checkout and when you reach the payment screen select the appropriate 'Cycle to Work Provider' or ‘Cyclescheme’ payment option and complete your order.

  Step 2

  If you have selected ‘Cyclescheme’ as your payment option, you will need to enter your certificate and redemption code to complete your order. If you have selected another Cycle to Work provider, you will have the option to upload your voucher before you complete your order. Alternatively, you can upload your voucher later through the My Account section of our website. You will need to upload your voucher so we can release your order and schedule a build date. Please note that you have a 28-day window to upload the voucher after placing your order.

  Step 3

  Your bike is then built and delivered as normal. Depending on the terms of your Cycle to Work agreement with your employer the salary sacrifice may commence before you receive your bike.

After placing your order and uploading your valid Cycle to Work voucher to your online portal, our Admin Team will review your order to ensure the details match the voucher. Once verified and approved, you will receive an order confirmation along with your build date.

What’s changed.

Prior to June 2019 the limit was capped at £1000. The DFT have since updated their guidance to allow Certificates of any value to be requested.

Why has it changed?

Due to their value, e-bikes were precluded from being ordered through the scheme. Given their popularity and demand for cycle commuting this was a major issue.

Therefore, the Cycle to Work Alliance (CTWA) lobbied for changes to the scheme to promote more cycling inclusivity, which also happened to include the purchase of e-bikes. This has resulted in the limit of the scheme being updated so that you can now obtain a market leading Ribble e-bike.

Can any employee order a bike over £1000?

Not necessarily, employers are free to set any limit that they see fit. Therefore, before applying for a Cycle to Work certificate we would first advise that you to speak to your employer’s cycle to work administrator. They will provide you with all the necessary information that you need for your application.

(If your employer already has their own FCA authorisation then they probably already accept orders above £1000).

Why the guidance is great news

E-bikes are changing the way that we travel but are more expensive than traditional bikes. You can now get your hands on one of the most advanced e-bikes in the world for a fraction of its RRP.

Is the Cycle to Work Scheme worth it?

Absolutely! Previously you would only make any savings on the first £1000 of the total value of the order. Now you make savings across the value of the entire bike package. These savings could save you on average somewhere between 25-39% of the value of the order. We think you will agree this is a substantial saving.

We will require either a voucher, certificate or letter of collection from your cycle-to-work provider to secure your order, the only exception to this rule would be Cyclescheme. If you have not yet obtained a cycle-to-work voucher, please speak to your employer in the first instance about how to obtain a voucher, certificate or letter of collection.

• Halfords Cycle to Work - A Letter of Collection will be emailed to you from your employer, sent directly from Halfords.

If you're placing an order using finance, it all starts on our website. Once you've popped in your shipping details and completed your order information, you'll be redirected to the V12 site to fill out the finance questionnaire. Once that's done, you'll be sent back to our website to finish up.

Vulnerable Person Policy

At Ribble, we understand the importance for our customers to receive the appropriate information about the products and ways of purchase that we offer to enable them to make an informed decision. The reason for the vulnerability could be a permanent or temporary situation. Our colleagues are trained to ask our customers questions and to actively listen to responses to recognise patterns which could indicate if a customer is potentially vulnerable.

What happens if a customer is identified as being vulnerable?

Being identified as being vulnerable does not preclude a customer from purchasing from Ribble. Due to the diversity of the factors that can contribute to the level of customer vulnerability, there cannot be one approach that can be universally adopted to fit each circumstance. However, examples of how we may ensure that the customer receives a fair outcome could be how we communicate, ask more questions, take further time to go over things and make suggestions for another family member to be a party to the conversations. If the customer is applying for a finance product, we may consider that before being referred to the lender or entering into a credit agreement, the customer would benefit from taking more time to consider whether they are able to understand the commitment they are entering into fully. As part of the application process, our finance partner may want to discuss further with a customer regarding their application. At this point and only with explicit consent from the customer or their appointed representative, and in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), we may inform our partner of an identified vulnerability to ensure the correct support is available. The overriding principle in our dealings with vulnerable customers is that fair outcomes are achieved throughout their purchase, and any commitments are fully explained, with as much time for consideration as needed, along with support provided to access or purchase our product. We offer a click and collect service from all our showroom for bike orders. Please note that showroom are only able to hold bike orders for up to 14 days due to limited space.

We only deliver to our showrooms once a week, this means it could take up to 7 days after the dispatch date we give you to get your bike to your chosen showroom.

Once you bike is ready the team at the showroom will reach out via phone and email to arrange a appointment to set-up and collect you new bike. 

Please ensure that you have your order confirmation to hand when booking your appointment. If you have purchased your bike through Cycle Scheme or V12 Finance, please ensure that you bring along some photo ID, either a full UK driving licence or valid passport will suffice.

The date that you can expect to receive your bike will be clearly displayed once you select your frame size. If your chosen bike is a pre-order, the ETA will be displayed at this point too.

When your order is dispatched from our warehouse you will receive a dispatch notification email, this will include your tracking information if you have chosen a tracked service.

Tracking information may not update until later in the evening of despatch or the next working day. Please allow for this when attempting to track your delivery.

Selected bulky items may incur extra shipping charges. These will be calculated in the basket and at checkout, based on the weight and size of the bulky items.

Where some product pages detail the weight of a product, this weight does not include the products packaging and shipping materials used to deliver your order.

At Ribble Cycles, we like to keep things straightforward, so here’s what happens after you place an order with us.

Step 1: Placing Your Order

Once you’ve decided on your dream bike, you can pop your order through on our website. During checkout, you’ll see an estimated timeframe for dispatch, and payment will be taken at this point. That gets the wheels in motion – literally!

Step 2: Order Acknowledgment

Right after you’ve placed your order, we’ll send you an Order Acknowledgment email. This confirms all the details, like the bike model, spec, and any custom choices you’ve made. It’ll also include the price breakdown and next steps. If you need to make changes, you’ll need to cancel the order and place a new one, so double-check everything’s spot on before clicking ‘confirm.’

Step 3: Order Confirmation

Once your payment’s cleared, we’ll send an Order Confirmation email. At this point, your order’s live and officially in our system. This email will outline what happens next:

Step 4: Build Confirmation

When your bike’s ready for production, we’ll send you a Build Confirmation email with an estimated dispatch date. This date is subject to small shifts, but if anything changes, we’ll let you know straight away.

Step 5: Dispatch Email

The day your bike leaves us, we’ll send you a Dispatch Email with all the important details. This includes:

• The delivery address.
• Tracking details to follow your bike’s journey.
• Links to download our Welcome Guide and (if applicable) e-bike owner’s manual.

From here, it’s all systems go to get your bike delivered to your door!

Step 6: Invoice Email

About 24 hours after delivery, you’ll receive an Invoice Email with your invoice attached. If you’ve bought the bike through a finance option or the Cycle to Work scheme, the invoice will go directly to the company involved. Don’t worry, though – if you need a copy, just give us a shout.

Pedals are a personal choice for each rider, so we don’t supply them as standard. If you ordered pedals with your bike or have a set ready to fit, below outlines the correct installation process. 

The right-hand side of the bike is where the chain is located (your right when seated on the bike), while the left side is the non-chain side. Before installation, grease will have already been applied to the crank arm by our mechanic during assembly. Match the ‘L’ or ‘R’ on the pedal with the corresponding ‘Left’ or ‘Right’ marking on the crank. Start by screwing the pedals in by hand for the first few threads, ensuring they are properly aligned and threaded, use a 15mm pedal wrench or Allen key (depending on the pedal design) to tighten the pedals securely to the recommended torque.

Before your first ride, we recommend checking the alignment of your rear derailleur. Although we take every precaution, bikes can occasionally sustain minor transit damage that could lead to issues if not inspected beforehand

To do this, stand behind the bike and observe whether the pulley wheels on the derailleur align with the cassette sprocket directly above (see image). If you notice misalignment, it may indicate that the hanger is slightly bent. Check for a noticeable slant of the hanger towards the wheel.

To maximise braking efficiency, we recommend you bed in the brakes before or during your first ride. Find yourself a long, gradual descent that lets you reach approximately 20 mph. Drag the brakes for five or six seconds to build heat, then increase lever pressure until you come to a complete stop. Repeat several times until you feel the ‘bite’ has improved.

All our Ribble disc brake bikes come with thru axles and in order to remove and install your front and rear wheels you will need to make sure you know how to use properly remove them.

Below one of out mechanics shows the correct process to remove and install a thru axle, remember make sure your Allen key is pushed in fully before turning to avoid rounding the head of the thru axle.

If your seat post is too long for the frame, it is perfectly safe to cut down to size. IF you have the appropriate tools that is. In the absence of a carbon specific hacksaw blade we recommend this task is carried out by a professional bike mechanic. Please ensure that the minimum insert guideline is mirrored on the new length of post.

A bike's wheelbase must be limited to ensure the best handling characteristics. This often leads to a phenomenon commonly referred to as ‘toe overlap’. This is when your foremost foot contacts the front wheel when you turn the wheel to an acute angle at really slow speed. This is entirely normal and is not indicative of a problem with the design or fit of the bike. When riding and cornering at normal speed, the wheel is never turned far enough to cause this issue.

The only time you may encounter toe overlap is when entering tight, slow speed corners. And there are certain steps you can take to minimise its effects:

• Position your inside foot in the twelve o’clock position to avoid the pedal striking the ground. Your outside foot being in the 6 o’clock position also ensures that there’s a sufficient gap between it and the tyre. This technique will become second nature once you’ve tried it out a few times.
• Make sure your feet are positioned correctly on the pedals. The pedal axle should be aligned with the ball off your foot.
• Fitting mudguards will increase the likelihood of toe overlap occurring. Try to ensure that the gap between tyre and mudguard is sufficient to ensure they do not come into contact but not too large that it increases the chance of toe overlap.

We recommend that you carry out the following checks before each ride to get the most out of your Ribble:

• Check your tyre pressures before every ride. High-pressure tubes can bleed air over time, especially if the bike hasn’t been ridden in a while.
• Always ensure the tyres are within the minimum and maximum pressure range imprinted on the sidewalls.  
• Make sure your brake pads are not worn beyond their usable limits.
• Ensure that the chain is clean and properly lubricated.

Whilst a puncture during your first ride is unfortunate, it is unlikely to be deemed a warranty issue where there are no assembly or material defects.

At the conclusion of any wet weather ride, rub your chain dry and treat it to a fresh coat of lube to prevent rust build-up. If your bike has mechanical shifting, it’s also a good idea to get into the habit of shifting to the smallest ring at the front and sprocket at the rear. Doing so will reduce cable stretch and prolong the lifespan of the rear gear cable.

Your e-bike’s drive system is self-contained and does not require any form of maintenance aside from that required for a conventional bike. MAHLE may issue a firmware update in the future, but this can be carried out by any authorised dealer.

Connect your bike to the app and note down the error code that is displayed. Contact us quoting the error code and we will advise you how to correct the issue.

The X35 firmware update can be performed by any Mahle dealer with access to the necessary GCU-USB cable required to perform it. Alternatively, we can carry it out for you free of charge at any of our Ribble showrooms. You would not need to book in, just turn up with your bike at a time convenient for yourself. The update takes approximately 5 minutes and in most cases can be done whilst you wait.

Firstly, we would advise you to familiarise yourself with how the wheel is secured to the bike and with the many video tutorials on YouTube. Rim brake bikes for instance use quick release skewers, disc brake bikes thru-axles and MAHLE X35-equipped electric bikes a bolt-on fitting at the rear. As most wheels now offer tubeless compatibility, the key to easy tyre removal is to ensure that both sides of the tyre are pushed into the centre of the rim bed before attempting removal with a tyre lever.

Regular maintenance is the key to keeping your bike running smoothly and efficiently. If you’re not mechanically minded, book your bike in for a service with a professional mechanic every six months or so. However, keeping the drivetrain clean and well-oiled should form part of your regular maintenance routine.

Every attempt should be made to avoid clamping carbon frames in work stands or bike racks that secure the bike by clamping around the tubes. When carrying out any bike maintenance we always recommend that you clamp the bike into the workstand using the seat post. Take care not to overtighten the clamp to avoid damaging the post.

We would always advise you to avoid cleaning your bike with a pressure washer where possible. The high-powered jet emitted from such a device or that of a hosepipe is liable to disperse grease from the bearings whilst forcing dirt/grit into critical components, leading to premature wear.

If you find that your disc brake is catching or rubbing against your brake caliper we recommend the following steps:

• Lifting up the rear of the bike and spinning the wheel, listening out for the rub.
• Once the location of the rub has been found, move the wheel back and forth to confirm it's at that specific orientation.
• Using either a torch or a piece of paper, look for light in between both sides of the brake pads. If one side doesn't show any light, you know that side is causing the rub and you can manipulate the caliper to ensure light can be seen on both sides.
• To manipulate the caliper, slightly loosen both of the bolts; just enough to where the caliper can move, but not hang freely.
• Move the caliper into a position in which all rubbing is eliminated.
• Re-tighten both bolts according to manufacturers specification.
• Check the disc for rubbing again, as tightening the caliper can cause it to shift.

Every component that forms part of your bicycle is subject to the general wear and tear that occurs through general use. Perishable components such as chains, cassettes, brakes, tyres, and bearings are subject to wear and tear more than any other parts. Any drivetrain components that are found to have worn out due to excessive wear or insufficient maintenance are not covered by the manufacturer’s warranty.

It’s important to note that not every bolt on your bike has a specific torque setting. Where it’s essential to have a bolt torqued up to a recommended value, the setting will be displayed on the component itself, or outlined in our quick start guide supplied with the bike.

1. Fig 1 shows all the necessary parts for the saddle clamp.
2. Using the rubber connector, attach both parts of the lower assembly together
3. Marry the two sub assemblies together
4. Loosen the clamping bolt to allow enough room to attach the saddle clamp to the saddle rails. 
5. Place the saddle clamp assembly on the saddle rails. 
6. Keeping pressure on the saddle clamp assembly to ensure nothing moves, place the saddle clamp onto the seatpost.
7. Tighten the clamping bolt, adjust the saddle to the angle and position you wish and then torque the clamping bolt to the specified torque.

If a new 7x7 Saddle Clamp is required, an Ultra Tri Saddle Clamp Assembly can be purchased and used after removing some unnecessary parts. Attached picture shows what is required to be removed, sections highlighted in red.

1. Ensure the area which you are painting is clean and free from any contaminants
2. Apply the touch up paint using a one of the brushes provided, ensuring to use as little as possible to cover the area you are touching up.
3. Once the paint has fully dried, apply the clear coat lacquer using the other brush.

How do I fit full length mudguards to my front forks?

There are two mounting points on all of the forks on all of our bikes. They are at the crown and at the bottom of the fork leg near the axle.

All bolt holes take a 5mm bolt (the same as a bottle cage bolt)

Some mudguards will come with a bracket attached which is to be used on bikes with caliper brakes, if your bike has disc brakes this will need to be removed and a hole drilled in the mudguard for the bolt to pass through and attach to the forks.

How do I fit a full length mudguard to the rear of my bike?

At the rear of the bike there are 3 mounting points illustrated below.

If your bike is a SL or SLR you will require a few extra parts to install your mudguards.

You will require a mudguard bridge specific to your bike which can be found on our website HERE and a set of direct mount adaptors such as the SKS Mudguard - Straight Mount Adaptor.

The rear mudguard doesn’t require the bridge that comes fitted to the mudguard and will need removing and a hole drilling in its place as all mudguards are universal and not bike specific.

Ride your bike for 30 days, and if you're not happy, return it.*

Our award-winning bikes have been designed and built to be the best in their class, and we are confident that when you receive your Ribble bike, you will be suitably impressed by it. However, we appreciate that sometimes, something just isn't as expected. So, we wanted to offer you the opportunity to return or exchange your bike within the first 30 days*.

All you have to do is make sure you keep the original box and packaging and contact us here. The original box must be used, and the returned bike must be clean and assembled as it was when it was received. We can help arrange for your bike to be collected (courier charges apply), or you can arrange your own courier.

*Fees (and certain exclusions) apply; see below.

We hand-build all bikes to order, and because of this, bikes returned for exchange of model or a frame size swap will incur a £50 workshop fee. Want to return your bike for a refund? Your bike has been custom-built to your specification; therefore, bikes returned for a refund will incur an £80 re-stocking fee.

Bicycles must be packaged and returned to us in the same Ribble box and using the protective materials you received in your order. Replacement packaging for the bike can be provided at a cost of £25.

The 30-day test ride commences from the date of the delivery, and you must inform us via email within 30 calendar days if you wish to return the bicycle.

We want you to be able to fully test your Ribble bicycle, so get out on your favourite ride or club run and make sure you are 100% happy with it. We do, however, ask that, apart from the expected wear and tear from a few rides, there is no other damage. We also require that the bike is clean. Bikes that are returned to us in a dirty condition will incur a cleaning charge of £30.

Any bike we receive that has incurred damage outside of the wear and tear expected from a limited number of rides will be ineligible for the 30-day test ride policy.

The following fees will apply when changing or returning a bike:

• For model exchange or frame size swap, a £50 Workshop fee will be applied.

So, we now offer a 30-day test period on bike purchases to give you the time to get out on your favourite ride or club run and make sure that you’re 100% happy with your custom-built Ribble bike. Should you wish to return your bike within the 30-day test period or for any other reason, you must first contact us using the contact form in the help centre within 30 days of receiving your bike. Our customer service team will then guide you through the returns process.

If there is a fault with your bike, please contact us with the details of when you first noticed the problem and if the bike has been involved in any crashes or impacts – either when being ridden, in storage or during transportation. We will then inform you of the next steps to return your bike to us.

Please Note

Our bikes are custom-built to your requirements, any order cancellations that are made after your bike has commenced assembly will incur our standard restocking fee of £80.00.

Bikes must be returned in their original packaging and must be assembled as they were when it was received. If you require a new box, please inform us, and we will send one out to you at a charge of £30.

We require that the bike is returned in a clean condition, bikes returned to us in a dirty condition will incur a cleaning charge of £30.

Any bikes purchased on finance or bike to work scheme are not eligible for the 30-day test ride policy. Bikes purchased on finance can be returned within 14 days inline with your finance agreements cooling off period. Bikes purchased using a bike to work scheme cannot be returned for a refund.

Any accessories that you may have purchased, and fitted onto the bicycle, are not eligible for the 30-day test ride return. This includes pedals. Our normal returns procedure applies to unused accessories.

These Government Department of Trade and Industry regulations entitle you to a 14-day 'cooling off' period which will commence from the date that you receive your purchase from Ribble Cycles. This regulation is to give you the opportunity to examine the goods that you have purchased as you would when buying in a shop.

All new Ribble frames and forks and Level branded components are sold with a 3-year manufacturer’s warranty, which covers structural defects in material or manufacturing arising during the course of normal use. The warranty will commence from the date the bike is received by the buyer.

A 3-year warranty is applicable to all Ribble branded frames and forks sold after February 1st 2018. For bikes sold prior to this date, please refer to the warranty terms on the date the bike was originally purchased. Please use our contact form if you are unsure about your original purchase date.

Any other Ribble branded products are sold with a 1-year manufacturer’s warranty, this covers structural defects in material or manufacturing arising during the course of normal use. The warranty will commence from the date the bike is received by the buyer.

The Ribble warranty applies to the original purchaser of the bike only and cannot be extended or transferred to a third party.

Ribble reserves the right to physically inspect any Ribble frame or fork, or any Level Component suspected of being faulty or defective. If a physical inspection of the bike is required, Ribble will only collect the bike from the country it was delivered to. We may ask for images or descriptions of any alleged fault to help us process a warranty claim prior to us asking for the bike or parts to be returned. Any request for additional details is to assist us with the processing of a warranty claim and is not deemed to be in lieu of any physical inspection.

When possible, we will first look to repair or replace any faulty products free of charge in the instance that a manufacturing defect has been identified. Replacements will be offered on a like-for-like basis where the value of the replacement goods will match the value of the faulty goods at the original time of purchase. While we will endeavour to offer an exact replacement, we are not always able to guarantee any replacement products will be an exact aesthetic match for the original in terms of style, colourway or graphics. All of which may change between model years. Replacement goods will be offered based on stock availability at the time of a warranty claim.

• Components returned to us without an original order number or proof of purchase.
• Components that are second-hand and are not returned by the original purchaser.
• Components returned with the serial number removed, tampered with, damaged or otherwise unreadable.
• Components affected by the following: Normal wear and tear. Cosmetic damage arising over time (i.e. not apparent at the time of purchase). Corrosion. Crash, crush or impact damage. Misuse, neglect.
• Components showing signs of improper care or a lack of reasonable and proper maintenance.
• Components showing signs of incorrect installation of replacement parts, modifications or work carried out by third parties unless agreed in writing by Ribble.
• Consumable items such as gear cables, freehub bodies, inner tubes, brake pads, wheel truing and bearings are non-warrantable items and not covered by this policy.

In order to process a warranty claim quickly and efficiently, we’ll need a few details about the bike and rider before we can proceed with a claim.

Once we have assessed the requested information that has been supplied, we will work with you to ensure that the bike is returned to our Ribble HQ as quickly and efficiently as possible. To facilitate the return of your bike, we can provide you with suitable packaging to safely box the bike for transport. Once the bike is boxed, our customer service team are able to arrange collection of the bike with our carrier partners. Simply let us know where you would like the bike collected from and when, and we will work with you to ensure this happens within reason.

The process of returning a bike under warranty internationally may differ as we may not always be able to arrange collection on your behalf. In this instance, we will offer to refund any postage costs you may incur in returning the bike using your chosen courier; we will request a copy of your postage receipt be emailed to us before a refund can be processed.

Ribble reserve the right to refuse a warranty claim if our terms and conditions have not been met and we will not reimburse the costs for warranty work carried out without prior authorisation from Ribble.

If, for any reason, the repair or replacement of your Ribble frame or fork is not covered under our warranty, we will offer preferential pricing on replacement frames, forks, and other components to get your bike back on the road. We’ll be happy to discuss the various options available to you.

As far as packing the bike for shipping, it is quite simple. The wheels can stay on, as can the seatpost and saddle. In order to fit the bike in the box, the handlebars will need to be removed. To do this, you will be required to remove the top cap and loosen the two stem bolts. Once this is done, upwards pressure applied to the bars will remove them from the fork steerer. Once this is done, wrap the bars in something to protect them (bubble wrap, cloth etc) and place the bars on either side of the headstock in a manner seen in the picture below.

Once this is done, feel free to add any additional bubble wrap around the frame to keep it well protected. After that it would be a case of placing the bike in the box, ensuring both front and rear wheel are sitting in the cardboard cutouts in both corners of the box.  As to what else to take off, basically anything that the bike did not come with when you received it (pedals, cycle computer mounts, any other accessories etc).

Please note that payments for pre-order products are taken in full when your order is placed. If you have paid for your purchase via V12 Finance, the agreement and payments will not commence until your goods are dispatched for delivery or are available for collection from store.

If you have paid using a Cycle to Work voucher, please note that your pre-order date is subject to change depending on when we receive your voucher and can release your order. This is because we can only allocate a frame to your build once full payment has been received. Furthermore, your scheme may start salary deductions immediately (please seek advice from your chosen scheme provider if you are unsure about this point).

Every effort is made to ensure that pre-order dates are accurate, but in some cases, it may be necessary for us to amend these dates. Under these circumstances, we will communicate any changes that apply to existing orders.

All orders are subject to acceptance and availability. If the goods ordered are not available, you will be notified by e-mail (or by other means if no e-mail address has been provided) and you will have the option either to wait until the item is available from stock or to cancel your order.

Orders that are placed by yourself at Ribble Cycles will be treated as an offer to purchase the goods and we have the right to reject such offers at any time. Any automated acknowledgment of your order received from us does not amount to our acceptance of your offer to purchase goods on the website. The contract between ourselves, Ribble Cycles and the buyer is concluded when we (i) take payment or (ii) dispatch the goods, whichever is the latter.

Any items sold on the website are not for resale or distribution. We reserve the right to limit the number of products that you may select to purchase. We reserve the right to cancel orders where we believe products are being ordered that are in breach of this provision.

Ownership of any bike purchased from Ribble is non-transferrable, any warranty becomes null and void in case of resale.

Finance

To pay by finance please proceed through to checkout where you will be presented with an option to pay by finance if your purchase qualifies. Once the finance method has been selected, you will then be forwarded to our finance partners website to complete your finance application.

What happens if I am declined for finance?

If your finance application is declined your order is automatically cancelled and V12 finance do not debit any funds.

Cycle to Work Scheme

Your Employer must have registered with one of the Cycle-to-Work providers for you to use this method of payment.

To pay by www.cyclescheme.co.uk simply select the cyclescheme payment option in the checkout and enter your e-certificate reference number in the appropriate box.

Where you have been emailed a voucher or letter of collection (LOC) by your cycle to work provider, you can upload these during the checkpout process or via the 'my account' page up to 30 days after placing your order. If a voucher is not uploaded within 30 days your order will automatically be cancelled with no liability being accepted by Ribble Cycles.

Cycles-to-Work orders are not considered confirmed and'active' until we are in receipt a verified voucher. Only upon receipt of your voucher can we confirm and schedule your order, prior to providing you with an estimated despatch date.

If you intend to purchase a pre-order bike via Cycle to Work, your pre-order date is subject to change depending on when we receive your voucher and can release your order. This is because we can only allocate a frame to your build once full payment has been received.

Whilst we appreciate that you may change your mind regarding your order, we cannot amend a bike order once it has been placed. If you wish to change your selected configuration, the order must be cancelled and a new order placed. For V12 orders, a new finance application will be required. Please note this new order process will be subject to the same payment verification checks and order schedule that may result in a new estimated despatch date.

We understand that circumstances change, and you may need to cancel your order. Please contact us at the earliest opportunity if you need to cancel your order. Due to the custom nature of the product, any cancellation of your order after the build has commenced will incur an £80.00 restocking fee. We cannot cancel orders that have already been dispatched, which will then be subject to the usual returns process.

Price matching for promotional offers

Throughout various times of the year we will run different promotional activity across our brand which may include a discount on certain ranges or models. These promotions will be time limited and subject to change.

If a promotion starts whilst you have a bike on order with us that is not yet dispatched, we will price match if the model and groupset on your order is included in the live promotion. How we price match will be determined by your original payment method. For orders placed using a credit or debit card we will refund the difference onto your original payment card. For V12 orders we will reduce the value of your V12 loan. For cycle to work orders we can only price match if you are able to supply us with a new voucher for the lower amount before your order is dispatched. Once dispatched we will not price match an order.

If your original order had a discount applied when you ordered it will not be eligible for any further discount.

Price matching will be reviewed on an order-by-order basis and Ribble reserve the right to refuse a price match.

If you wish to make a claim under our Price Promise during the Black Friday period, please contact our Customer Service team for more information.

Price matching for a cycle to work order

We understand that sometimes it can take some time for you to receive your cycle to work voucher from your provider, and we don’t want you to miss out on the offers and promotions we run throughout the year.

That’s why if you are buying using a cycle to work voucher, we will match the promotional offer price on our bikes for up to 30 days after the promotion if you have created a valid cycle to work quote.

This can be done two ways, if you are not using cycle scheme as your cycle to work provider you will be able to check out and complete your order whilst the promotion is still live. You’ll then have 30 days to upload your voucher on you my account page, or you can also follow the process for cycle scheme users.

If you use Cycle scheme you will need to generate a cycle to work quote before the promotion ends, then from the end of the promotion you will have 30 days to get your voucher to complete your order. Once you have your voucher contact the customer service team to request a one-time use discount voucher, this voucher will then be used at checkout to reduce the cost of your chosen pre spec back to the promotional price to complete your order.

Please note if your chosen pre spec is no longer available on our website or if the price of that pre spec has changed due to component changes we may not be able to provide an exact price match and you may be required to obtain a new voucher from your provider.

Price matching will be reviewed on an order-by-order basis and Ribble reserve the right to refuse a price match.

By default, all prices on our website are displayed in Pounds Sterling (£GBP) and include VAT (where applicable) at the standard UK rate of 20%. Purchases made from outside of the UK are VAT-free. We offer the ability to pay in selected currencies (£GBP, $USD, $AUD, $CAD, $NZD, €EUR, ¥YEN) – any purchases made in a currency outside of these will be charged in Pounds Sterling (£GBP) and converted to your currency by your credit/debit card provider.

When placing an order, the order will be charged in the currency of the billing address (where available), but if the delivery address is outside the UK, VAT is omitted. You may be required to pay local tax upon import into the destination country. These charges will be applied to the basket price during checkout where applicable. To avoid delay, please ensure that the billing and delivery addresses are correct at the time of order.

This is due, in part, to receiving incorrect or limited information from the manufacturers/suppliers. Where weight is stipulated, this is provided by the manufacturer and we cannot guarantee its accuracy. • Every Ribble CustomColour bike is hand-painted in the UK by our team of skilled professionals, and your paintwork is covered by a 2 year warranty. Our warranty covers manufacturing defects, but does not cover normal wear and tear such as stone chips, wear on heavy-use areas such as the drop-outs; or abrasion caused by the fitment of bags, panniers etc.
• Selecting CustomColour will add to the leadtime of your bike, which is clearly signposted when specifying your bike on our website. Leadtimes may fluctuate, but a CustomColour bike will usually take several weeks longer than a non-custom order for us to fulfil as all bikes are hand-painted in the UK.
• As your CustomColour bike has been painted to your specification and is highly customised, we are unable to accept returns except in the case of a structural manufacturing defect. Please ensure that you are happy with your design prior to placing your order. Our showrooms have all of the colours available to view, and our Live video chat team can also help you discuss your design prior to ordering.
• We cannot guarantee that your hand-painted Ribble bike will be free from cosmetic scratches or non-structural blemishes. Whilst we will make every effort to make sure your bike exceeds your expectations, some imperfections are inherent with the hand-paint process, forming the unique patina of your finished bike.
• Our bikes are designed for use in a variety of situations and terrains. In some applications, such as gravel riding, bike packing or mountain biking, your paint may become chipped or incur some imperfections over time. Should you wish to touch-up your paint, we provide a full range of touch-up colours to match your bike’s design*.
• We understand that sometimes the unexpected does occur, and your bike may be involved in a crash, sustain some damage from being dropped, mounted to a cycle carrier or packed into the boot of a car. We have a full range of touch-up paints available* for all of our designs and colours; and we also have a crash replacement policy if you need to completely replace your bike or frameset. In the first instance, please contact our Customer Service team who will be happy to help you find a solution to any situation not covered by our warranty.
• We advise you to regularly clean and maintain your bike to ensure that your paintwork continues to look its best, and remains within warranty.
• Although usually a rare occurrence, Ribble reserves the right to withdraw colours or designs from sale without prior warning. If your bike order is effected, we will contact you directly to discuss your options.
• Images of CustomColour designs are for illustration purposes only; the final colour may vary slightly from the image displayed.
• *Please note the touch-up paints are not available for colour-flip paint, or our Special Edition designs due to the nature of the finish.

Time of delivery as indicated above shall not be of the essence.

While we make every effort to meet the delivery times provided, factors beyond our control may sometimes impact delivery times and therefore cannot be guaranteed. If an unexpected delay occurs, we will notify you as soon as possible. If we are unable to meet the specified delivery date, you have the option to cancel your order and receive a full refund, or proceed with the order and receive a refund of any delivery charges.

If Ribble Cycles is unable to meet a delivery date due to delayed deliveries by our suppliers or other uncontrollable events, you have the right to terminate the contract by providing written notice to Ribble Cycles without any compensation or indemnity being due. However, Ribble Cycles will be entitled to receive payment for all products already supplied to you.

We reserve the right to terminate any order where we find our carriers are unable to deliver as part of our agreed standard contract terms.

The first time a customer visits the Ribble Cycles website they are asked to confirm this information which is then stored in a cookie set to last for 1 year. Without this cookie the customer would have to re-enter their preferences every time they visit the website.

A number of persistent cookies are also set by the computers that run the Ribble Cycles website. These cookies are solely used to record technical information necessary for our web servers to work properly. No personally identifiable information in stored in these cookies.

No. Under the VAT Retail Export Scheme, customers leaving the EU for more than 12 months were able to reclaim VAT on the bike by presenting a form VAT407 to customs upon exporting the goods from the EU. Unfortunately, as part of a review of duty-free shopping, obtaining this refund process ceased on 1st January 2021.
