Both the MAHLE X20 and X35 eBike systems require occasional firmware updates. A flashing pink light on the iWoc button often means an update is due.
Firmware updates:
Keep your bike running smoothly
Fix known issues
Sometimes add new features
Because the X20 and X35 systems are different, the update process is not the same.
Updating MAHLE X20 firmware
Connect your bike to the MySmartBike app
If an update is needed, a “Software Update” banner will appear at the top of your screen
Press Update and follow the on-screen instructions
You may be asked to keep your bike on charge during the process
The app will guide you through to completion

Updating MAHLE X35 firmware
The X35 system cannot be updated remotely. Instead, it must be done in person using the MAHLE Dealer app and a GCU cable.
All Ribble showrooms can update your X35 firmware free of charge, no appointment needed
The process takes around 5–10 minutes and can usually be done while you wait
Alternatively, any authorised MAHLE dealer can carry out the update for you
