The estimated range shown on your MySmartBike App is worked out based on how much power your eBike has used compared to the distance it’s traveled. The bike looks at past data and gives an estimate of how far you could go with the charge you’ve got left.
Want to get the absolute most out of your battery? Follow these handy tips below!
Adjust Your Motor Maps
Straight from the factory, your bike comes with three motor maps, shown as green, amber, and red lights on the IWOC when you switch assistance levels. Using the MySmartBike app, you can tweak these settings to adjust how much power each level provides, anywhere from 30% to 100%.
For example, if you mainly ride on flat roads, you might want to set the first two levels to a lower assistance level, while keeping the highest setting at 100% for when you hit those tough hills. You’ll soon figure out what works best for your riding style. You can adjust these settings any time via the MySmartBike app, so feel free to tweak them as you go.
The less assistance you use, the more range you’ll get from your battery!
Environmental Factors
Like any battery, your eBike’s power pack doesn’t perform as well in cold weather. The chemical reaction inside works best in warmer temperatures, so it’s normal to see a drop in range during winter.
The terrain you ride on also makes a difference—steep hills mean the motor has to work harder, which drains the battery quicker. Even a strong headwind can make the bike use more power. So, if you’re after the longest possible range, try to plan a route with gentler inclines when you can.
Keep Your Bike Well-Maintained
A clean and well-looked-after drivetrain doesn’t just make your bike last longer—it also helps increase your range.
Dirt and grime add resistance to the drivetrain, making the motor work harder and using up more battery. Keeping your chain and gears clean and well-lubricated will help you get the most out of every charge.
Check Your Tyre Pressure
Under-inflated tyres create extra rolling resistance, which means your bike has to put in more effort to keep moving. On a regular bike, you’d feel this as extra drag. On an eBike, it means the motor uses more power, reducing your range.
You’ll find the recommended PSI printed on the sidewall of your tyre. Tyres—whether tubeless or with inner tubes—naturally lose pressure over time, so checking them before each ride is a great habit to get into.
Need More Range? Try a Range Extender!
If you’ve followed all these tips but still find you need more range, you can add a range extender. This is an extra battery that attaches to your bike like a bottle cage, boosting your total battery capacity by up to 70%.
Just remember—the X20 and X35 systems use different models, so be sure to buy the right one for your bike. You’ll find them available on our website (links below).
By following these simple steps, you’ll keep your eBike running at its best and get the maximum range from every charge.
