When the weather turns, many riders switch to indoor training — and apps like Zwift make it a whole lot more enjoyable. But if you’re new to trainers, the different axle designs can cause some confusion.
Here’s what you need to know to get your Ribble set up with no fuss.
Step 1: Know Your Axle Type
Most Ribble bikes use either:
Thru-axle — common on disc brake bikes.
Quick release (QR) — found on some rim brake and older bikes.
Check your bike first, as the trainer will need to match your axle type.
Step 2: Check Trainer Compatibility
Direct drive trainers (where you remove your rear wheel) usually include adaptors for different axle types.
Wheel-on trainers (where your rear wheel stays on) often use a trainer-specific QR skewer.
If your bike uses a thru-axle, you may need a specific thru-axle adaptor kit.
Step 3: Follow the Trainer Guide
Each trainer brand provides its own instructions and adaptors. Always follow these to ensure a safe, secure fit.
Extra Tips
Double-check your rear derailleur clearance when mounting the bike.
Make sure your chain is correctly seated on the trainer cassette (for direct drive).
