Thru-Axle
Bike Thru-Axles are very easy to remove. Simply use a correct sized allen key (normally a 6mm) and loosen the axle. Once it is loose, remove it from the bike and the wheel should come away. Please know that Thru-Axles have a specified torque, so be sure to tighten it to the specified amount; this should be printed on the Thru-Axle. Failure to do this can cause issues for the bike.
Quick Release
Quick Release wheels live up to their name, as they are indeed quick to release! No tools are required to remove the wheel, you only must loosen the quick release skewer. The only real consideration you need to make is that a fully inflated tyre might not clear the rim brake caliper. Below, you will find a guide of how to use the quick release on the caliper. This will remove tension from the brake, allowing the wheel to fit with no issues. Just remember to close the quick release once the wheel is reinstalled, as the brake will not function with it set to open.
X35 Rear Wheel
Our X35 eBikes follow a slightly different design than normally seen on bikes. On the end of either side of the wheel, you will see a black nut. Using a 8mm allen key, loosen the two axle nuts completely. After that, remove the two dropout washers. Once that is complete, carefully unplug the battery to motor cable that should sit on the non-drive side chain stay. This connection can be quite tight, so be sure to only pull on the connectors themselves, not the cables.
To reinstall the wheel, reconnect the battery to motor cable making sure to line up the arrows on each connector. After that, place the cable back into the guides and fit the wheel into the dropouts, ensuring the raised lip of the washers fit into the corresponding frame cut outs. Reinstall the axle nuts and tighten them to 18-23nm using your torque wrench
X20 Rear Wheel
With our eBikes supplied with the Mahle X20, the process for removing and installing the rear wheel is very simple. The updated design features a traditional thru-axle, so the process is nearly identical to any standard thru-axle bike. The only consideration to take would be to install the wheel in the orientation as seen below, as this will allow the motor to receive power from the battery cable.
