When you’re customising your bike, one of the key adjustments to consider is the handlebar width. A proper fit can make a world of difference to your comfort and performance on the bike.
How to Measure for Handlebar Width
To get the right fit, measure the distance between the AC joints of your shoulders—these are the bony bits where your collarbone meets your shoulder blade.
Understanding the Measurements
Handlebar width can be measured in two ways:
- Center-to-Center: From the center of each drop (most common).
- Outside-to-Outside: From the outer edge of the drops (e.g., Zipp handlebars).
Adjusting Your Measurement
- For Center-to-Center, add 2cm to your shoulder measurement.
- For Outside-to-Outside, add 4cm to your shoulder measurement.
Getting this right will help ensure a smoother, more comfortable ride!
The 2 most common ways that manufacturers denote bar width is centre to centre or outside to outside
