Headset standards have changed a lot over the years, which can make choosing the right one for your Ribble bike confusing. This guide covers every Ribble frame from the early 2000s to today, with details on which headset you’ll need.
Pre-2016 R872
31.6mm seatpost, matt (stealth) finish.
Top bearing: 1 1/8" 45x45 (30.5x41.8x8) – widely available online.
Bottom bearing: Unusual size – can be sourced through specialist bearing suppliers.
2017 Gran Fondo
Features tapered 1 1/8" to 1 1/4" 45x45 headset.
No longer stocked by Ribble, but widely available online by searching 1 1/8" to 1 1/4" headset.
Alloy & Carbon Frames (2000–2016)
Popular pre-tapered models (e.g. Sportive Bianco, Gran Fondo 2012–2016, 7005 Sportive, SC61.10A, Aero TT).
Headset: 1 1/8" 45x45 (IS41), also known as Campag fit.
Widely available online.
Alloy & Steel Frames (2017–2022)
Includes CGR AL, CGR AL e, CGR 725, Endurance 725, R872 (Disc and Rim), Hybrid AL, Hybrid AL Trail, Hybrid AL e.
Upper bearing: 41.8x30.2x7 45x45
Lower bearing: 51.8x40x8 45x45
Requires 1 1/8" to 1 1/2" tapered headset.
High-Performance Carbon (2018–2022)
Includes Ultra SL R, Ultra SL, Endurance SL/SL Disc/SL R, Endurance SL e, CX SL, CGR SL, Gravel SL.
Compatible with LEVEL 5 integrated carbon bars (fully hidden cable routing).
Upper bearing: 40x51.8x7 45x45
Lower bearing: 40x51.8x8 36x45
MTB, Gravel & Titanium Frames
Includes HT 725, HT AL, HT Ti, Gravel Ti, Gravel AL, Endurance Ti, CGR Ti.
Use 44mm headtube design with external lower bearing cup.
Note: Earlier CGR Ti models require the headset listed under Alloy & Steel (LEVEL 52).
Gravel AL e & Step-Through Models
Unique headtube with fully integrated cable routing.
Requires LEVEL H56 headset.
